Tough Times... |

|
The sanctuary came very close to closing in the summer of 2006 due to major funding losses in both 2005 and 2006. It was a very difficult time period for many non-profit organizations after a large number lost the majority of their funding when supporters shifted their donations to natural disaster relief programs (like the Tsunami & Hurricane Katrina). Our sanctuary was one of the non-profits that suffered incredible losses, as we ended up over half a million dollars short in 2005... and lost nearly the same amount in the first half of 2006!
However, the option of closing the sanctuary fell far short of our goal to save every animal - as there just weren’t enough places to take these kinds of animals in. We had to make the decision to do whatever we could to save the animals.
The facility had to be saved, yet how could we save this place after we had already done everything we could to save it before? Well, the answer came from tens of thousands of people who heard about our plight, and decided to get involved.
Many people made donations to help keep the sanctuary going (while more long-term answers could be found)... and others came to our rescue by getting involved in a more direct ways.
A lot of people chose to sign up for our Pledge Program and Adopt an Animal Program - which helps us in our quest to build stable funding… and other people chose to get involved by creating ways to help raise money for the animals! |

Saving one animal will not change the world.... But, surely, for that one animal - The world will change forever! |
